Enter the Wilds

A note for players:

The Wilds are a self-contained roleplay setting. Your character arrives with the memories and history you choose to bring with them, but their experiences in Covenant of Embers remain within this plane. If you play the same character elsewhere, they do not retain memories, knowledge, powers, relationships, or consequences from the Wilds.

We're Glad or Sorry You're Here

Welcome to the Wilds

You remember the life you had before.

Its people. Its promises. The roads you traveled, the names you carried, the choices that shaped you. Whether you were born beneath a distant sky or had already lived a hundred lives, those memories are yours.

Then the dreams began.

A storm where there should have been clear skies. A voice in the dark. A train whistle carried on the wind. And finally, the Crossing.

You woke in the Wilds.

A World Apart

The Wilds are not another town, another territory, or another stop along the way. They are a plane unto themselves: isolated, sealed away, and held in the stillness of 1899.

The land may resemble the world you knew, its forests, mountains, rivers and towns feel familiar enough but it is not the same world. Its rules are different. Its magic is alive.

You may have existed somewhere else before the Crossing. You may exist somewhere else again in another story. But the Wilds do not travel with you.

What happens here belongs here.

No memory of the Wilds can be carried beyond its borders. No message can be sent across the veil. No person outside this plane will know what became of you here, unless the land itself decides otherwise.

The Way Does Not Lead Out

Some still try to leave.

They board the train and watch the towns disappear behind them. They follow old maps into the wilderness. They ride until their horses tire, walk until the stars change or chase the horizon through wind and snow.

Eventually, they return.

The train brings them back to the same platform. The trail folds into itself. The river bends toward familiar ground. The Wilds do not release those they have chosen.

There is no road home. Not yet.

When the Land Holds You

The Wilds understand that not every soul can remain awake forever.

When someone grows quiet when days, weeks, or even months pass without a word the land does not punish them for it. It shelters them.

Some are claimed by deep, dreamless sleep. Some follow a private trail no one else remembers seeing. Some find themselves held in a place between waking and death, beneath the roots of the world, until they are ready to return.

When they wake, the Wilds are still waiting.

Their fire may have burned low, but it was never extinguished.

Magic Has Teeth

Everything in the Wilds carries a trace of the old power: root and river, storm and stone, bone and blood. For some, that power arrives as a whisper. For others, it rises like a wildfire.

The land can make you stronger. It can reveal what was hidden within you. It can offer belonging, purpose, and wonders that the world beyond could never explain.

But magic is not gentle merely because it is beautiful.

Power attracts attention.

Something moves through the spaces between towns and beneath the dark tree line. It watches the newly awakened. It listens for the flare of an ember taking hold. It waits for magic to grow bright enough to be noticed then it comes to feed.

Be curious. Be brave. But do not be careless.

The Wilds have accepted you.

That does not mean they are safe.
